Using Official Support Channels
Scammers frequently impersonate Microsoft, Apple, Google, Amazon, computer manufacturers,
internet providers, antivirus companies, and other technology businesses.
Do not use a telephone number displayed in a pop-up warning, unsolicited message, or search
advertisement. Begin at the company’s official website or application. If a website requests
payment, remote access, a gift card, cryptocurrency, or a verification code before providing
ordinary account assistance, stop and verify the request independently.

Important Verification Reminders
A company logo, caller-ID name, email address, or professional-looking website does not prove
that the contact is legitimate.Technology companies do not monitor every customer’s computer and then telephone unexpectedly
to report infections.Never provide an account password, verification code, recovery code, security key, device
passcode, or remote access merely because someone claims to represent a manufacturer. When in doubt, stop the conversation, close the message, and contact the company again through
its official website or application. If remote-access software was installed during a suspicious interaction, disconnect the device
from the internet and obtain assistance before using the device for email, banking, shopping,
password changes, or other sensitive activity.
