The boxes that make the house talk
Work is on networking and wireless. Who sells you fiber is on internet. We do not endorse a carrier.

How the work actually goes

Internet modem
The box from the ISP. Lights, provisioned vs dead, and the difference between “no internet” and “no Wi-Fi.” See also internet / ISPs.

Wireless router
The brain of the house network. One cable in from the modem. We do not daisy-chain extra routers until the house is a mess of double-NAT.

Mesh Wi-Fi
Nodes that should talk to each other, not fight the ISP gateway. Placement matters more than buying a fourth unit.

Ethernet switch
A basic switch off the router is how you add wired rooms without another wireless hop.

PoE switch
Cameras and access points that drink from the Ethernet cable. Wrong injector, dead camera.

Wireless access point
Ceiling or wall AP, not a second consumer router in AP “mode” that nobody documented.

Range extender
Sometimes a band-aid. Sometimes it halves the speed and we replace it with mesh or a real AP.

Powerline adapters
Through the house wiring. Fine on some panels, miserable on others. We test before we sell a stack of them.

Small-business cabinet
Patch, PoE, UPS, and the cable that goes into the ceiling. Home-based shop — this is still on-site work.

“Paul has been working on my sisters computer and network for years now. She introduced me to his company, and I have been delighted with his performance. He is punctual, responsive, accurate, and insightful. He takes all the drudgery of “working on a computer/network” out of my hands and I love that ! More time for me to do the things I want to. His pricing is in line, I feel, .. all this makes him easy to recommend for anyone needing computer services.”
Sandy Tuttle
“We needed to upgrade our network at work to comply with credit card standards. Paul was recommended by another employee. We called Paul and he promptly fixed all our issues. The price was very reasonable. I would recommend Paul to anyone with a computer problem. He really knows his stuff. It is a relief to know if I have a problem I can call Paul and know that he will take care of it. Very reliable and trustworthy.

Network gear — FAQ
1. Modem vs router vs mesh?
Modem talks to the ISP. Router makes the LAN. Mesh extends Wi-Fi. People use one word for all three. We will name the box in the photo.
2. Do you run cable through walls?
Sometimes. Quoted. Not a surprise extra on a Wi-Fi ticket.
Network acting up?
Submit a ticket. Photo of the gear helps.
